Ortner’s Syndrome

  • Ortner’s syndrome,
    • also known as cardiovocal syndrome or
    • Ortner’s cardiovocal syndrome,
    • rare condition
      • characterized by hoarseness of voice resulting from
      • compression or paralysis of the recurrent laryngeal nerve due to cardiovascular abnormalities.
    • The most common cause
      • aortic aneurysm.
      • Other cardiovascular conditions that can lead to this syndrome include
        • aortic arch aneurysm,
        • pulmonary hypertension
        • mitral valve stenosis
    • Other symptoms may include
      • dysphagia
      • shortness of breath,
      • coughing, and
      • sometimes pain in the chest.
